DfE updates privacy notice model documents for local authorities in view of GDPR

January 12, 2018

On 3 January 2018, the Department for Education (DfE) published updated privacy notice model documents for local authorities that aim to assist their compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation ((EU) 2016/679) (GDPR).

The DfE's model privacy notices provide suggested wording for schools and local authorities to adapt and issue to staff, parents and pupils about the collection of data. They are designed to help schools and local authorities comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA 1998). The data protection regime will be overhauled by the GDPR and the Data Protection Bill 2017-19 (which will become the Data Protection Act 2018 once it receives Royal Assent) in May 2018, and the DPA 1998 will be repealed. The DfE has updated its suggested privacy notices accordingly.
